Season’s first storm pummels Tiburon Peninsula

More than 7.5 inches of rain pummeled Tiburon and Belvedere over the weekend, knocking out power, downing trees and flooding roads.

One downed tree and reports of power lines sparking on Tiburon Boulevard near Palmer Court prompted the closure of the boulevard between Rock Hill Road and Avenida Miraflores about noon Oct. 24. Crews arrived to clear the scene, but that stretch of roadway wasn’t reopened until about 9 p.m.

The flood-prone intersection at Tiburon Boulevard near Beach Road was also closed for several hours Oct. 24 due to flooding, which Tiburon Police Chief Ryan Monaghan said was “heavier than usual” for that area.

The rain also helped Marin Municipal Water District’s reservoirs jump from 32.3 percent capacity on Oct. 19 to 43.4 percent capacity Oct. 24, the most recent available data — but that’s still down from being at 63.4 percent capacity this time last year.
