Police say man tried to steal cars in Belvedere, attack cop

Police say a San Francisco man tried to steal several cars in broad daylight in Belvedere last week before attempt- ing to swing an aluminum pole at the cop trying to arrest him. The 37-year-old was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail June 25 on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, attempted car theft, vandal- ism and theft. He was later released from jail; his bail amount was not available. Because the man was report- edly having a mental-health crisis, The Ark is withholding his name unless the District Attorney’s O ce decides to le formal criminal charges.
