Reed school district to put parcel tax on Nov. 5 ballot

The Reed Union School District will ask voters in November to approve a 12-year parcel-tax renewal and extension, money officials say is critical for maintaining district programs and attracting top-notch teachers. District residents are paying about $571 under the current tax, which was approved in 2014 and carries an annual 3 percent cost-of-living escalator; that tax is set to expire in June 2022, when it would be about $624. If two-thirds of voters approve the ballot measure, the tax would be renewed at its existing rate through June 2031. The tax would continue to carry a 3-percent annual increase, putting it about $815 by its expiration.
