Beach Road seawall project in Belvedere moves toward summer construction

Belvedere put its $4.63 million Beach Road stabilization project out to bid Feb. 20, with responses due March 19 and construction targeted for June — the latest step in shoring up a seawall that engineers warn is cracking and at risk of failing in a major earthquake.
The Belvedere City Council reviewed the project’s final design plans and construction timeline at its Feb. 23 annual retreat, where representatives from Stetson Engineers confirmed the design is complete.
The project is a partial but urgent fix: It will protect only the stretch of seawall where work is installed, and engineers acknowledge that water could still enter the lagoon if the remainder of Beach Road failed in a major earthquake. About one-third of the seawall will remain untreated.
