Belvedere seeks interim appointee for vacant position on council
Belvedere will seek an interim appointment to fill a vacancy on the City Council rather than leave the seat open until the November election.
The council at its March 23 teleconference meeting voted 4-0 in favor of making a short-term appointment to replace former Vice Mayor Steve Block, who resigned March 17, less than two years into his four-year term.
The chosen applicant would only serve a few months in the role until the Nov. 8 General Election, in which they could run to defend their seat as the incumbent. The winner of that election would serve the remainder of Block’s term, through November 2024. Two four-year seats on the council — those of Mayor Sally Wilkinson and Councilmember James Campbell — are also up for election this November.
