Everyday Encounters: A retired publicist in Tiburon finds ‘liberation’ in his Chevy Corvette

Tiburon resident Mike Scippa polishes his cherry red 2006 Chevrolet Corvette parked along the water at Shoreline Park on the afternoon of July 16, the muscle car’s paint glistening in the sun.

 

While he declines to share the top speed he’s reached in the vehicle — “I plead the Fifth,” he says. “I don’t want to incriminate myself” — he says the naturally aspirated V8 brings the car to life. For muscle-car enthusiasts, that’s doing it the honest way, without forced air from superchargers or turbos.

 

“The acceleration, the pure power,” he says. “It’s a different dynamic. You gotta be careful.”
