Library picks next director from SoCal

The Belvedere-Tiburon Library has tapped the head of the Imperial County Free Library as its next director.

Crystal Duran, who also serves on the California Library Association board of directors, will replace outgoing Library Director Debbie Mazzolini, who is set to retire Jan. 14 after 25 years on the job. The library board voted unanimously to hire Duran at its Dec. 13 meeting.

The 34-year-old will be just the second director in the library’s history; Mazzolini was hired in 1996 to oversee the development and construction of the original library and has steered it through the major $17.69-million expansion that’s now underway and is expected to be completed early next year.

Duran’s first day on the job will be Jan. 10, allowing for about a week of overlap for training before Mazzolini retires.
