A membership gym offering free weights, cardio equipment, self-adjusting strength machines and saunas is coming to a downtown Tiburon storefront that has sat empty since 2022.
The Tiburon Planning Commission on Aug. 12 granted Five Points Fitness a conditional-use permit to open an 8,090-square-foot gym across two floors at 1620 Tiburon Blvd. Recreation and entertainment uses are allowed in the property’s mixed-use zone only with a use permit, and the space had most recently been offices. The vote was 3-0, with Chair Daniel Amir and Vice Chair Eric Woodward absent. No one spoke during public comment.
Tom MacDonald, who co-owns the gym with Bryan LeFebure, said after the meeting that they’re targeting a February 2027 opening, pending construction permits and schedules.
The Tiburon location would be the company’s third. MacDonald told the commission that he and LeFebure bought the Corte Madera gym from World Gym about 21 years ago and have run the Novato gym for 11 years.
