Reed district plans for a second poll about facilities bond measure

The Reed Union School District will poll voters a second time to see if support has increased for a potential November facilities bond measure.

Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates, or FM3, conducted an initial poll for the district last fall to gauge support for the $115-million bond, which would go toward what officials say are necessary upgrades on all three district campuses, including replacing portable classrooms, installing air conditioning, replacing roofs, repaving playgrounds and replacing stairs.

The initial poll of 223 likely district voters found 62% would support the proposed bond without any additional information about the tax measure or the district. That number rose to about 65% after voters were given educational statements about the bond measure but dropped to about 59% after an exchange of educational statements and negative messaging. The poll had a 6.6% margin of error. The bond measure would need 55% voter approval to pass.
