Tiburon artist focuses on ‘Transitions’ in new library exhibit

Many years ago, Kim Armstrong spent three months traveling around France when she went to the post office to mail a 40-pound box back home. When she was asked what it contained, she apparently said the wrong words for “beach sand.” The postal worker thought she said “kitty litter,” and found that a strange thing for the American to be sending to the U.S. The Tiburon resident has a collection of sand from all the different beaches she has visited during her many travels. So far, she has amassed 100 small containers of sand from around the world — from Jordan and Israel to Mexico and Greece, as well as from all across the U.S. Her paintings of sand and stones found on beaches worldwide will make up part of “Transitions,” an exhibit of Armstrong’s work running Dec.10-Jan.3 in the Founders Room of the Belvedere-Tiburon Library.
