Construction on Belvedere’s Beach Road stabilization project will likely continue into November, with city officials anticipating they may need an extension to complete work in the water beyond an Oct. 30 deadline.

Public Works Director Antony Boyd told the Beach Road Stabilization Project Oversight Subcommittee on Oct. 7 that crews have begun installing 42-foot steel sheet piles along the shoreline. The contractor has revised the construction sequence to finish as much in-water work as possible before returning to the street-side portion of the project.

“There have been delays, and it definitely looks like it will be going into November to complete the work,” Boyd said. Finishing the in-water work by Oct. 30 remains “quite tight,” he added.

The city expects to decide whether to seek an extension in the last two weeks before the deadline, when weather forecasts and the amount of remaining work will be clearer.
