Belvedere is still looking for a way to replace the aging well that fills Community Park’s irrigation tank after the only proposal to drill a new one came in about $44,000 over budget.

The proposal came from Gordian, a company that supplies public agencies with contractors already vetted under state public-bidding law, and was submitted through the purchasing cooperative Sourcewell. It came to $122,127, against the city’s $78,000 budget for the well, Public Works Director Antony Boyd said in an Oct. 9 email to The Ark. The city will instead run an informal bidding process for the same work, with completion now expected in spring 2027.

Boyd had told the city’s Parks, Open Spaces and Lanes Committee on Sept. 17 that hiring through Gordian would make it easier for the city to get jobs done than a conventional bid.

The city leases the current well on private property near Laurel and Bayview avenues, City Manager Robert Zadnik told The Ark.

“The well has been having production issues, despite our work to try and get it to clean it and maintain it,” he said. “So we’re looking for an alternative. We’re still actively looking to drill a new well somewhere, hopefully in Community Park, to supplement that irrigation water.”
