Metal sculptures of two birds in flight could be Tiburon’s next public-art project, though arts commissioners say they would need to secure funding before recommending the installation.
Sausalito-based painter and sculptor Nicki Adani presented her proposal for “Bird’s Eye View” to the Heritage and Arts Commission March 24. The metal birds, with wingspans of 10 feet and 11½ feet, would be depicted in mid-flight and elevated 12-13 feet above the ground on support posts. The birds’ feathers are open, allowing light to pass through, with the phrases “Be You” and “Fly Free” cut into them.
Adani suggested the birds could be placed as a temporary installation at South of the Knoll Park or as a permanent installation on the patch of Shoreline Park lawn nearest the Tiburon ferry landing. However, she said, those locations were based on early discussions with Commissioner Jaleh Etemad and aren’t locked in.
