Some 5,000 residents are hit by power outage

A Pacific Gas and Electric Co. outage map about 9:30 p.m. Jan. 7 shows the areas without power in orange and green.

A power outage affecting nearly 5,000 residents hit the Tiburon Peninsula over the weekend.

A tree reportedly fell onto a power line on East Blithedale Avenue at 9:12 p.m. Jan. 7, said Pacific Gas and Electric Co. spokesperson JD Guidi. The outage hit about 4,800 customers, including 3,025 in Tiburon, 1,019 in Belvedere and 576 in Strawberry and Mill Valley.

Some 41 customers in Tiburon, including some downtown businesses, were still without power as of noon Jan. 8. PG&E spokesperson Megan McFarland said high tides were delaying crews from accessing underground equipment to make the necessary repairs.

McFarland said crews began the underground work about 3 p.m., and power was expected to be restored to all customers by 5 p.m. Jan. 8, after The Ark’s press deadline.
