Tiburon police sergeant charged in domestic abuse case

A Tiburon police sergeant has been charged with spousal battery and inflicting “unjustifiable physical pain or mental suffering on a child” stemming from a January domestic violence incident at his Novato home.


Shane Ford, 50, is set to be arraigned on two misdemeanor charges at 8:30 a.m. May 19 in Marin County Superior Court. If convicted, he could serve up to two years in jail and would be required to relinquish all firearms for 10 years, according to District Attorney Lori Frugoli; she did not clarify whether the latter would allow Ford to carry a service weapon while on duty.


Police Chief Ryan Monaghan said in a May 6 press release that its investigation has concluded, noting he is "currently working with our town administration to take firm and swift action now that the (internal) investigation into the conduct has been concluded.”
