Tiburon native’s bust of local railyard founder unveiled at museum

Many of Howard Lazar’s childhood memories are intertwined with Tiburon’s railroad past. So when Lazar, now 71 and a sculptor, recently completed a bust of industrialist Peter Donahue, who founded the San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad in 1869 and established the railroad terminus and rail yard in Tiburon, it was like “coming full circle.” The work of art, commissioned by the Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society, was unveiled March 31 at the Tiburon Railroad & Ferry Depot Museum, where it will help educate museum visitors about Donahue’s role in Tiburon’s history.
