Tiburon parks board backs plans for public-art project featuring faux street signs

A public-art proposal to place 15 faux street signs bearing positive messages from Blackie’s Pasture to downtown is likely headed to the Town Council for final consideration.

The Tiburon Parks, Open Space and Trails Commission voted 4-0 March 17 to back the “Word on the Street” exhibit from artist Scott Froschauer and recommend it to the council. The parks board currently has one vacancy.

The Heritage & Arts Commission, which has been the driving force behind the proposal, planned to vote once more on the project at its March 24 meeting, after The Ark’s press deadline, before sending it to the council.

The $20,000 project from the Los Angeles-based Froschauer has evolved over several months of consideration by the arts and parks boards, expanding from 10 signs to 15 and moving to new locations after the parks board in December asked that signs be placed in more ambitious, higher-visibility spots rather than tucked away in smaller parks.
